One Minute Film & Video Festival

The annual short film festival One Minute Film & Video Festival took place in Aarau , Switzerland .

At the festival, films were presented and awarded that did not last longer than 60 seconds. The festival was launched in 2004 by Stephan Filati and Kurt Dettling. Since 2010 the festival has lasted four days. The prizes in several categories were endowed with CHF 1,000 each. There was also an audience award. In 2012 around 1000 films from 50 countries were shown. The 12th Festival 2016 was the last of its kind.

2004

The 1st festival took place on August 21, 2004. 160 films were shown. The jury consisted of the artist and writer Emil Schwarz.

2005

The 2nd festival took place from August 19th to 21st, 2005 and was the first three days. Over 200 films from 24 countries were shown.

2006

The 3rd festival took place from August 18th to 20th, 2006. Over 700 short films were shown. The jury consisted of the filmmaker Danja Erni, the journalist Michael Berger and Silvio Alberti. In addition to the competition entries, ultra-short films that had previously been shown at festivals in Italy, Croatia, France, USA, Canada, Chile and Japan were shown. The four categories "Feature / Documentary Film", "Art / Experimental Film", "Animated Film" and "Youth Film" each received CHF 500 for 1st prize.

2007

The 4th festival was held from August 17th to 19th, 2007. This year the award was designed by the sculptor and sculptor Rafael Häfliger. The jury consisted of Dafna Maimon (member of the Amsterdam One Minute Festival), Werner Stalder (director of the Swiss Film & Video Festival Spiez & Thun) and Peter Werhrli (Kino Freier Film Aarau). Over 400 films from 39 countries were shown. Around 1,800 spectators attended the festival.

The One Minute Film & Video Festival was this year the 49th stop of the "59 Seconds International Video Festival".

2008

The 5th festival was held from August 22nd to 24th, 2008. Over 400 films were shown. The jury consisted of Sabine Girsberger, the film critic Thomas Hunziker and Delphine Lyner (President of the Swiss Youth Film Festival). As part of the supporting program, installations by the artists Marianne Büttiker and Terry Schaufelberger were exhibited in the Kunstraum Aarau.

2009

The 6th festival took place from August 21 to 23, 2009. The four categories “Feature and Documentary Film”, “Art and Experimental Film”, “Animated Film” and “U20 Film” were each endowed with CHF 500.00. For the second time there was also a prize for the best film from the canton of Aargau. The festival goers chose the audience award. The jury consisted of the dancer and film expert Ruth Grünenfelder, the film critic Christian Jungs and Christoph Schmid. An installation by Pixelpunx (Pixpax / Joshimi / Sesam / H-Lunke / Fleisch) was shown in the Kunstraum Aarau. Around 3000 festival-goers were able to watch over 1000 films, 325 of which took part in the competitions. The best feature and documentary film was “Thank You Third World” by Maximilian Gerlach, who also won the audience award for this film.

The 7th festival took place from August 19th to 22nd, 2010 and thus lasted four days for the first time. It showed four hundred competition films from over 40 countries. The five competition categories “Feature and Documentary Film”, “Art and Experimental Film”, “Animated Film”, “U20” and “School Class Film” were each endowed with CHF 1,000. The jury consisted of the journalist Evelyne Baumberger, Melanie Morgenegg and the art historian Marianne Wagner. Installations by the artists Annamarie Kellenberger and Marius Brühlmeier were shown in the art space.

The 8th festival took place from August 18-21, 2011. Over 1000 films were shown. The five competition categories feature and documentary film, art and experimental film, animation film, U20 and school class film are each endowed with CHF 500.–. This is the fourth time that the category “best one-minute from the canton of Aargau” has been included and is endowed with CHF 1,000. There was also an audience award. The Swiss design collective “Bureau Purée” designed the new trophy “One Minute Circle”. The jury consisted of Monika Schärer , Petra Miersch and Mike Schaerer . In addition to the competition films, films from international partner festivals were shown again. At the beginning the film "Mon Oncle" by Jaques Tatis was shown live with new music.

The 9th festival took place from August 16-19, 2012. Around 1000 films from 50 countries were shown in 60-second format. The jury consisted of the Swiss film director Peter Luisi , the radio journalist Patrick Vogt and Franziska Kaiser. Some categories were again endowed with CHF 1,000. Only films that had a shooting time of up to three hours were permitted in the “Instant Film” category. The festival had 1,500 visitors on the weekend alone.
