Oneiromantie
Oneiromantie (Greek óneiros for dream and mántis for fortune teller) is the use of dream interpretation for prophecies .
Even in the earliest times, people attached particular importance to dreams. One possible interpretation is to view the dreams as prophecies. In ancient times, in addition to Aristotle and Plato , Artemidor von Daldis in particular dealt with the interpretation of dreams and the possibility of prophecies in his dream book Oneirokritika .
There are several places in the Bible where God gave instructions, predictions, and promises to people through dreams, or gave them the ability to interpret dreams. In the Old Testament , Joseph was able to interpret Pharaoh's dream and thereby predict the future. Solomon received his wisdom from God in a dream face. Daniel had numerous visions and interpreted the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar II about the fall of his kingdom.
Nowadays, oneiromancy is mainly used in esotericism .
