The Onken GmbH is a 1940 by Hermann Onken established German manufacturer of dairy products , headquartered in Moers . The Onken brand has belonged to the Swiss milk processor Emmi since 2011 .

history

In 1940 Hermann Onken took over the “Buying and Selling Cooperative for United Milk Producers” in Essen . From then on, the company was called "Donau-Molkerei-Produkte Onken & Co KG". In the sixties a new production plant was opened in Mülheim an der Ruhr . In 1993, the new dairy was finally built in Moers-Hülsdonk on the Lower Rhine. Since 1994 there has been another sales company in London.

In 2004 Onken was taken over by the Oetker Group . On January 1, 2011, the Swiss premium dairy Emmi acquired the worldwide rights to the Onken brand from Dr. Oetker. As a result, Emmi managed marketing and sales, while Dr. Oetker acted as co-packer. The jobs in Moers were preserved. Moers Frischeprodukte GmbH & CO has been operating since 2018. KG as a subsidiary of the production joint venture of Dr. Oetker and Gropper as the new co-packer for Onken's branded products.

Onken is primarily sold in Germany and Great Britain, Emmi's two key markets.

Products

Whole grain fruit yoghurt, natural yoghurt and quark are produced under the brand name Onken.

At the end of 2019 and again in 2020, Emmi briefly relaunched the Frufoo fruit quark with some changes under the Onken brand, 15 years after ceasing production in 2004 .
