Online franking (DHL)

The online franking of DHL is a browser-based way to clearing of parcels and packages and the subsequent expression of the token via a connected PC printer. No installation of special franking software is required for this, but a PDF reader and a defined web browser are required. Alternatively, national or EU shipments can also be printed using a smartphone and a QR code. The printing then takes place at the packing station or in a post office.

The postage paid shipments can only be sent nationally and internationally with Deutsche Post and DHL , for example via a post office , a Packstation or a parcel box . Collection is also possible against additional payment.

Over the years, there have been several payment options for postage: direct debit , PayPal and Postpay (formerly DHL Checkout). Since September 2018, non-registered customers can only pay via PayPal. Payment via Postpay was discontinued on September 30, 2018.

The franking consists of two parts, the shipping slip itself and the "shipment information for your documents". In addition to the addresses for the sender and recipient, the dispatch note contains two barcodes (1-D barcode), consisting of the consignment number and the routing code (computer-readable address of the recipient). The price of packages and parcels franked in this way is cheaper than paying in a Deutsche Post branch.
