Online Today

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Online Today was an internet magazine published by Gruner + Jahr .

The magazine was first published in 1996 as a special issue of the television program guide TV Today under the title TV Today Online . It was later positioned more independently by renaming it and appeared regularly. It was finally discontinued in June 2002. After intensive marketing measures, the circulation temporarily reached over 200,000 copies, in the end it was around 116,000 copies.

Based on the sister magazine TV Today , Online Today was a program guide for the Internet, which was developing into a mass medium in these years.

However, with the improvement of search engines and directories on the Internet itself and with better knowledge of the users, the need for printed information has decreased. In contrast to television, the Internet presented itself - after a development phase. In addition, the crisis of the "New Economy" began at the end of 2000, as a result of which the hitherto huge advertising budgets shrank or disappeared. The magazine was eventually discontinued because of falling circulation and advertising revenue.

One of Online Today's trademarks was the comics by their in-house draftsman Jamiri .
