Only Men Aloud! is a Welsh male choir. It was founded in Cardiff in 2000 by the opera singer Tim Rhys-Evans . He became known to a wide audience for winning the talent show Last Choir Standing , which was broadcast on the BBC's first television program in July and August 2008 .
Career
Rhys-Evans is from southern Wales and was a member of the Welsh National Opera for five years before the choir was founded . There he also gained his first experience as a choir conductor. In 2000 he created his own choir, Only Men Aloud! together. With him, pieces should be presented that had influenced Rhys-Evans in his childhood, but are rather untypical for choirs. Currently the choir consists of 18 men, including teachers, musicians, students, a gardener and a pharmacist.
In spring 2008, the choir applied to take part in the Last Choir Standing talent competition designed by the BBC . Only Men Aloud sat down among the 15 amateur choirs invited . in the audience vote. A month after the final show, they signed a multi-million pound record deal with Universal Music to record five albums.
The choir's debut album was released in late November 2008 and reached number 16 on the British album charts.
