Ōnokuni Yasushi ( Japanese 大 乃 国 康 , proper Aoki Yasushi ( 青木 康 ); born October 9, 1962 in Memuro , Hokkaido Prefecture ) is a former Japanese sumo wrestler . He was the 62nd yokozuna .

Ōnokuni, who had a very large physique even for a sumo wrestler and weighed over 200 kg in his later career, was introduced in March 1978 as the wrestler of the Hanaregoma Heya . In 1982 he made it to the Jūryō Division. After only five tournaments he debuted in the sanyaku -Rängen and after two more successful years with a total of seven special prices (5 × Shukun-Sho , 2 × Kanto-sho ), he was in 1985 for ozeki promotion. During this time, competition with Hokutoumi was established , with Ōnokuni mostly only playing "second fiddle". After a phase of rather mediocre performance, the "Panda" surprisingly achieved its first tournament victory in May 1987 - with 15 wins and no defeat ( Zensho-Yusho ). The good results in the two following tournaments were not enough to win another tournament, but were enough for the sumo association to appoint him yokozuna.

In the following year 1988 Ōnokuni won against his opponent Hokutoumi in the jump-off in the March tournament. This second tournament victory was his last. Ōnokuni could not maintain his level of performance and even suffered a make-koshi in 1989 . In early 1990 he suffered a broken ankle with torn ligaments in the fight against Chiyonofuji and had to pause four tournaments. Although he competed three more times afterwards, he still had to resign in 1991. He first became an oyakata in the Hanaregoma-Beya wrestling stable, but then founded his own Shibatayama-Beya stable.
