The Opération Sentinelle ( French ; translated "Operation Sentinel ") is a French military operation with 10,000 soldiers and 4,700 police officers, which has been in use since the attacks in the Île-de-France area since January 12, 2015. 154 units are deployed at 722 locations to protect sensitive places and objects from terrorist attacks , including places of worship, schools, public buildings, theaters, museums, monuments, markets, subways, train stations, airports, diplomatic and consular missions and the media. They are guarded around the clock. The Opération Sentinelle, decided by the former French President François Hollande , strengthens security on French territory in addition to the French anti-terror plan Vigipirate . It was reinforced due to the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015 in Paris and is on constant alert due to the ongoing terrorist attacks in France . 6500 emergency services are deployed in Île-de-France and 3500 in the provinces. In addition, there are 1,500 marines who thwart attacks at the sea and 1,000 soldiers from the French air force , who are supposed to guarantee the security of French airspace.
