OpenLandscapes ( spelling : openLandscapes) is a collaborative web information platform for the knowledge area of landscape research . The content is posted and maintained in a suitable form by the user community in accordance with the Open Access approach and is available for restricted use and distribution under a non-free Creative Commons license. It was initiated and developed by the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in cooperation with the International Society for Landscape Ecology, Region Germany (IALE-D).

The website gives users a quick overview of important and current aspects of landscape research and their areas of knowledge.

The aim of the first generation of OpenLandscapes is:

  • a database for ongoing projects in landscape research, which has usually not yet been published,
  • a database with definitions of terms and detailed explanations on these as well as permanent topics of landscape-related research,
  • a future-oriented level of research documentation: the publication of primary data from landscape research.
