The Open Government Initiative is a government initiative of Barack Obama's government to achieve "an unprecedented level of openness in government". The President gave the instruction to start this initiative on January 20, 2009, his first day in office.

The philosophy of the Open Government Initiative is that government should be transparent, participatory and collaborative. US federal agencies have set up open government websites and invite the public to contribute suggestions and ideas.

On the day of the inauguration of the 45th President Donald Trump and thus at the end of Obama's term in office, the open government program was removed from the White House website and the Twitter account @OpenGov deleted.
