Open Mobile Alliance

The Open Mobile Alliance ( OMA ) is an association of leading service and product providers in the field of mobile communications with the aim of developing marketable, interoperable digital services and establishing them as a standard worldwide.

The OMA was formed in June 2002 from the previously self-sufficient organizations Open Mobile Architecture Initiative and WAP Forum. Since then, the individual organizations Location Interoperability Forum (LIF), SyncML initiative, MMS Interoperability Group (MMS-IOP), Wireless Village, Mobile Gaming Interoperability Forum (MGIF) and the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum (MWIF) have joined the OMA.

The organization consists of around 350 members, including the most important representatives of the entire value chain of the mobile communications sector and related industries such as Microsoft, Vodafone, Nokia and IBM. The aim is to ensure the interoperability of devices, software and content. In its own words, the OMA attaches great importance to the openness of its organization in order to achieve the greatest possible scope. The partners of the OMA include B. the World Wide Web Consortium. At the same time, she takes the view that only open standards such as the digital rights management standard OMA DRM enable fair competition for the best ideas.

The institute is based in La Jolla , California ( USA ). The current chairman of the organization is Jari Alvinen .

Products

There are a number of products that include: B. enable remote management of end devices via the OMA-DM protocol, for example to implement FOTA . There are also first products such as B. ProSyst, which combine the function of an OMA-DM server with the possibilities of OSGi and TR-069 . OSGi can z.
