opentracker is a free ( Beerware ) Bit Torrent tracker software (a special type of HTTP or UDP server software), which is designed for speed and minimal system resource requirements.
features
Opentracker is many times faster than any previous BitTorrent tracker software and requires less storage space. The latter in particular enables the software to be used on systems with low capacities, such as embedded systems . Clusters can be operated with several instances of the software that synchronize with each other. In addition to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), opentracker can also be addressed via the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which, among other things, can reduce the volume of data traffic on the tracker by more than half. opentracker supports IPv6 , gzip compression for full scrapes and blacklists of unwanted torrents. Since in the meantime copyright infringement warnings have already been sent due to the listing of the accused's IP address on BitTorrent trackers, opentracker can add meaningful random IP addresses for the purposes of credible deniability .

Opentracker is based on the program library libowfat , written by Felix von Leitner , which manages network connections. Separate protocol extensions have been developed for some new functions, such as UDP support with IPv6 or data synchronization between several program instances.
Opentracker works entirely in memory , which is a big part of the speed advantage of the software. The software is implemented in C.

The trackers from The Pirate Bay , the world's largest tracker complex, were completely converted from the self-developed Hypercube to opentracker at the end of 2007. A large part of the BitTorrent peers (responsible for the majority of the world's Internet data traffic) worldwide are served by opentracker with it.
The software is also used by the Norwegian state broadcasting company NRK . Even Wikipedia can control one tracker to distribute such. B. the DVD edition of the encyclopedia.
