Opera Sahnesi
The Opera Sahnesi ( German : Opernbühne ) is the largest of the three opera houses in Ankara . It belongs to the Turkish State Theaters ( Devlet Tiyatroları ).
The building was designed by the Turkish architect Şevki Balmumcu as an exhibition center. The Balmumcus project won first place in the international competition for the building in 1933. The German architect Paul Bonatz converted the building into an opera house. On April 2nd, 1948 the new opera house opened.
The building also serves as a spoken theater stage under the name of the Great Theater ( Büyük Tiyatro ).
