The Operation Plymouth Rock refers to a nine-day assault against strongholds of Iraqi rebels in the north of the province of Babil south of Baghdad , where about 5,000 soldiers from parts of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit of the US Marines and the Scottish Black Watch infantry regiment (Royal Highland Regiment) of the UK Army and Iraqi units were involved. From November 23, 2004 to December 2, 2004, the cities of Jabla, al-Iskandariyya and al-Latifiyya in the so-called Sunni "triangle of death" as well as important stretches of land along the Euphrates River were captured.
The offensive followed immediately after Operation Phantom Fury (also called Operation Al-Fajr ) in Fallujah .
