The blue hairy fast runner ( Ophonus azureus ) is a beetle from the subfamily Harpalinae within the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).

features

The slender ground beetles reach a body length of 6–9 mm. The pronotum and elytra are shiny green or blue. Rows of dots run over the wing covers. The legs are solid red. Ophonus similis is a similar species, but does not occur in Central Europe.

distribution

The beetle species is found in the Palearctic . They occur in southern northern Europe and southern England. The distribution area extends from Europe across the Mediterranean (including northwest Africa) to Central Asia (central Siberia, northwest China). The beetle species prefers open, dry locations such as limestone grasslands .

Way of life

The beetles feed on different seeds. They overwinter as larvae.
