Ophthalmoplegia
The term ophthalmoplegia (from the Greek ὀφθαλμός 'eye' and πληγή plēgḗ , German 'paralysis' ) stands for "eye muscle paralysis" in ophthalmology , whereby all cranial nerves III , IV and VI responsible for oculomotor function are often affected. A distinction is made between the following forms , depending on the muscles affected or the location of a disorder:
- Internuclear Ophthalmoplegia (INO)
- Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmoplegia (CPEO)
- Internal ophthalmoplegia
- total ophthalmoplegia, e.g. triggered by a superior orbital fissure syndrome or cavernous sinus syndrome
