Optogate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Optogate is an automatic microphone switch that is controlled by a built-in ( infrared radiation ) optical proximity switch. The device is inserted between the microphone and the connection cable .

Similar to presence-controlled devices, the Optogate recognizes when someone is in front of the microphone and switches the microphone on without switching noises . The microphone is automatically switched off again when nobody is in front of the microphone. Without manual intervention being necessary, disturbances such as feedback or background noise that often occur in public address technology can be reduced. The device can be adjusted in its sensitivity to approximation and draws its energy supply from the phantom power of 48 V common in the studio and stage area .
