The Altenburg Orangery is located in the castle garden of the city of Altenburg in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

Duke Friedrich II of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg had the tea house built in the Altenburg castle garden between 1706 and 1712. The neglected garden was transformed into a modern French baroque garden during the Duke's reign . The highlight was a new pleasure house . It is today's tea house. The designs for this come from the Zeitz master builder Heinrich Gegenbach. He posted the new building at the highest point in the park , which required renovations and new buildings.

The baroque garden with its buildings is the highlight of the orangery .
