Oratorio Sant'Onofrio Palermo

The oratory of Sant'Onofrio is located near the church of Sant'Agostino. The building, dedicated to the holy ascetic Onophrios , dates from the second half of the 17th century and was under the care of a brotherhood of the same name.

The interior is decorated with stucco and other decorative elements from a later period. A plaque commemorates a spring that once fed the Papireto River. The most important works of art are the realistic wooden statue of the saint from 1603 by the carver Cieco di Palermo, the main altarpiece "Death of Saint Onophrius" was painted by Zoppo di Gangi and the wooden reliefs with scenes from the life of the saint were created by Giovanni Calandra (not to be confused with the Mosaicists of the same name in Rome).
