Coordinates: 62 ° 26 ′ S , 58 ° 24 ′ W
The Orca Seamount (alternatively: Viehoff Seamount ) is a deep sea mountain in the Bransfield Strait between the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands and the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula .
The deep sea mountain, recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) in February 2000, is named after the killer whale ( Orcinus orca ), which is often found in Bransfieldstrasse . Alternatively, there is also a name recognized by the ACUF since June 1995 after the German remote sensing technician and oceanographer Thomas Viehoff (1957–1994), who worked on the research vessel Polarstern .
