Order of Marie Eleonore

The order of Marie Eleonore was a Swedish order of women .

It was donated by the widowed wife Maria Eleonora von Brandenburg of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf . He was killed in the battle of Lützen in 1632 and the order should remember him. Only princesses were honored with this award.

Order decoration

The order decoration was a crowned golden heart and showed the grave of the deceased. The motto of the order was: “Post mortem triumpho et morte vici multis despectus magna feci”, which means “After death I triumph and through death I have won; although despised by many I have accomplished great things ”means.
