Order of the Lamb of God

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Order of the Lamb of God (l 'Ordre de l'Agneau de Dieu) was a Swedish knightly order . It was donated on June 10, 1564 in Uppsala by King Erik XIV ; it expired with the death of the founder in 1578. The aim was to honor the court.

The attribution of the foundation to King John III. is said to go back to the coronation year 1568, but cannot be proven.

The order decoration consisted of a gold chain of laurel wreaths with royal crowns above. The crowns were held by lions and lizards. Columns and seraphines alternated with these. A gold medallion with the image of the Savior hung on the chain . On the sides of King Erik XIV two angels knelt at the lamb's feet. The order's motto was “Deus protector noster”.
