Order of the Yellow Ribbon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Order of the Yellow Ribbon was a French knightly order . The founder was the Duke of Nevers , Charles II. The foundation year was 1600 (1606). The order was a society of Catholic and non-Catholic knights .

The statutes and ceremonies were seen as ridiculous. As an example of this “virtue”, the knights had to be able to use the Italian finger play “la Mora” (even / odd). The horses to be ridden had to be gray horses, which were saddled and harnessed red. The medal was a yellow ribbon that the new knights wrapped over the right shoulder to the left hip.

The motto of the order was: “Domine, probasti me” meaning “Lord, you have tested me”.

The order was abolished by Henry IV , King of France and Navarre. He was the founder's uncle .
