Order of the Seal of Solomon

The Order of the Seal of Solomon was founded on the European model by Emperor Yohannes IV of Abyssinia in 1874 as an Order of Merit .

Only the Grand Cross and the " Cross of the Order of Solomon " are known.

Order decoration

The order decoration of the Grand Cross is made of gold and shows two triangles pushed into each other, which characterizes the seal of Solomon. In the middle there is a filigree cross . The cross and triangles are set with precious stones . The golden crown of Ethiopia is located above the order decoration . On the back there is an inscription in appreciation of the person to be awarded. The cross of the Order of Solomon is made of silver and gold-plated, but has no precious stones.

A red robe with a gold brocade salar was used as religious clothing . This included a cotton shawl with wide silk braids woven through it. It is known as a "Mergef".
