The Ordnance QF 18-pounder was a British gun light British artillery of the First World War .

The gun was created in 1904 from the experience of the British in the Boer War . The gun was a conventional pre-war design. The pipe return and loading mechanism was housed on the stationary carriage . The carriage itself was installed on a base plate that rested on an axle. Simple wooden spoke wheels were used for transport. A simple earth spur , designed like a ploughshare, gave additional stability. At the beginning of the war the gun was standard equipment in the British Army and Commonwealth armies . Towards the end of the war, some pipes were even drilled open. This increased the caliber and produced a 25 pound version. Later, all weapons were also fitted with a spreader mount instead of a simple end spur.
