Discography
  • 2011: Orbis Tertius
  • 2013: A Crooked Path to Desolation

Ordo Obsidium released two studio albums about Eisenwald. The band gave no information about the content, while many reviewers dealt with a possible worldview and placed the band in the ideological tradition of Black Metal. The debut, in particular, received wide reviews.

style

The music played by Ordo Obsidium is categorized as a crossover of black metal and funeral doom . In addition, parallels to Depressive Black Metal are attested. For comparison, reference is made to groups such as Wolves in the Throne Room , Weakling , Kathaaria , " Emperor , early Katatonia and Mortifera ".

“Black Metal actually determines what happens through the guitar walls and the plaintive, desperate vocals and also the rough, mangy production. In addition to the fast, sometimes chaotic parts, the neat creep dominates, which through interesting guitar topping and rudimentary melodies may not be captivating when first heard, but later, and unfolds its full atmosphere. content

Since there is no more detailed information about the band's content, reviewers use associative classifications that they generate from identifiable words of the song, the titles used, the emotional-atmospheric effect of the music and the sound carrier design. Ordo Obsidium is differentiated from popular performers from the US metal scene such as Wolves in the Throne Room , who stylistically but not ideologically refer to Black Metal. The title and the recognizable terms "Cosmic" and "Chaos" would make it clear here that "in terms of ideology is not tapped into the same notch". Further associations attribute attributes such as occult , mysterious , hellishly desolate and gloomy to the band and negate the positive “ spirituality and closeness to nature” of American post-black metal .

reception

The debut Orbis Tertius was recorded in Louder Studios in California, was released in 2011 on the German metal label Eisenwald and was well received internationally. Webzines such as Metal.de , Terrorverlag, Stormbringer.at, Rocktimes.info and Musikreviews.de dedicated themselves to the album. Reviews of Orbis Tertius were mostly cautiously positive and emphasized a divided perception of the album, that it has good ideas and is hypnotic, but also appears exhausting and unfinished. Michael Werneke wrote for Terrorverlag in such a way that the musicians “already show some of their potential on their debut. If they get this channeled even better, it will definitely be an interesting thing! ”Similarly, Patrick Olbrich assessed Metal.de, the music“ definitely has its lengths and also the two central Schwarzheimer titles mentioned [ Into the Gates of Madness and Emptiness Under the Moon ] do not work that well, but some ideas and implementations border on greatness - you can build on that. "For Stormbringer.at, Christian Wiederwald called the music" not charmless, but also very, very exhausting. "Anders Andrea Groh for Rocktimes, who praised the music as atmospheric and wrote that “the music of Ordo Obsidium [...] really [seems] to come from the underworld, especially when a nasty nagging voice torments its way through the dark background music. 'Orbis Tertius' is not really suitable for beautiful spirits and cheerful natures, but if you are looking for a soundtrack for a tour through hell and similar realms, you should listen to it. ”Andreas Schulz described the album in a similar way for music reviews and stated that Ordo Obsidium was“ a promising newcomer of American Black Metal and with her wonderfully bleak sound a good companion to enjoy gloomy autumn hours. And the gentlemen have nothing to do with supposedly intellectual vision Black Metal either. ”The debut for Heavyhardes is also classified as a surprise. It has become "an extremely compelling, original work that gives the band a dream start". Five years after the debut followed the neglected A Crooked Path to Desolation . The album was praised and recommended as a very good release.
