The Organização de Pioneiros de Agostinho Neto (OPA) (German: Pioneer Organization Agostinho Neto ) is an Angolan youth organization of the MPLA .

history

The OPA was founded on December 1, 1963 by the co-founder of the MPLA Lúcio Lara and was initially called Kudianguessa . It was originally created for the children of guerrillas. After Angola's independence in 1975, it took on the name Organização do Pioneiro Angolano . In November 1979, it was renamed Organização de Pioneiros de Agostinho Neto in honor of the recently deceased first President of Angola . In the 1980s she received support from the GDR, which in August 1982 sent the pioneer organization a lecturer to Angola on socialist indoctrination. In December 2003, a cooperation agreement was signed between the OPA and the Angolan Ministry of Education, and in October 2014 with the Ministry of Culture, the National Institute for Children and the Scout Association (Associação dos Escuteiros). It had around 147,000 members in 2004 and around 600,000 in 2014 between the ages of 8 and 17 in all 18 provinces of the country.

purpose

The aim of the youth organization is a better knowledge of the national symbols, the strengthening of the national values, like the singing of the national anthem , with regard to the preservation of the national identity as well as the moral, civic and patriotic education. To this end, it organizes cultural, social and recreational activities such as the children's carnival (carnaval das crianças), a national song festival , competitions in the performing arts , excursions to monuments and sites of historical interest and, in collaboration with the scouts, excursions and holiday camps.
