Company history
In 1885 Yasutarō Kuraishi began producing and selling electrical devices in the Tokyo neighborhood of Nihonbashi. At the beginning of the 20th century he successfully developed commutator motors and in 1940 a 1-phase synchronous motor with 1/30 HP. In 1950, the company Tōyō Dendōki kabushiki-gaisha ( 東洋 電動機 株式会社 ) was founded, which was renamed Oriental Motor in 1953 . The expansion into foreign markets began in 1978 with the establishment of a branch in the USA, followed by the European headquarters in Germany in 1982.
Today Eiji Kawahito heads the company, which has twelve production facilities in Japan . Oriental Motor is represented with its own companies in the following countries: Brazil, China, Germany, France, Great Britain, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA.
The head office for Europe is in Düsseldorf.
