Orlando Julius (actually Orlando Julius Ekemode , * 1943 in Ilesha ) is a Nigerian musician (saxophone, vocals), band leader and songwriter.

Live and act

Orlando Julius began in the 1960s to mix African musical elements such as highlife with American rhythm & blues , jazz , funk and soul ; his main influences include Fela Kuti and Afrobeat . In addition to his work in Nigeria, he toured the United States for several years, where he worked with Lamont Dozier , The Crusaders and Hugh Masekela . In 1966 his album Super Afro Soul was released , which made him known nationwide in Nigeria. In the music of the album High Life merged with James Brown's Famous Flames , Sam & Dave and jazzy Brass - riffs . In the 1970s he directed Orlando Julius & His Afro Sounders , with which two LPs were released by Philips . He made an international comeback around 2000 when Super Afro Soul was re-released. He has been touring with the London based band The Heliocentrics since 2014 . Orlando Julius lives in Lagos.
