Ormsund bru

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ormsund bru is a bridge in the southeastern urban area of the Norwegian capital Oslo . It connects the tiny island of Ormøya and the Oslo district of the same name with the mainland.

In the 1870s there was already a wooden bridge . Today's bridge is still a steel bridge from 1922. Originally it was built with only one carriageway and no sidewalk, but due to the opening of another bridge to the neighboring island of Malmøya and the increasing settlement of the islands, which also includes a marina , the bridge was no longer able to cope with the traffic. Between October 2005 and October 2006 it was expanded from 4.5 m to 8.7 m in width and its load-bearing capacity increased. A sidewalk was also added to improve security.
