Orsodacne humeralis is a beetle in the Orsodacnidae family .
features
The beetles are 4.4 to 7.9 millimeters long. Their coloration is very variable and ranges from yellow to brown to black. The pronotum and wing covers can be of different colors. In the case of lighter elytra, these are usually darker along the seam of the wing. The males are usually darker in color than the females. The beetles have thick white hairs. The pronotum is heart-shaped with smooth side edges. The second and third antenna elements are about the same length.
There are at least four different forms:
- Orsodacne humeralis var. Coerulescens Duftschmidt
- Orsodacne humeralis var. Flava Csiki
- Orsodacne humeralis var. Nigriceps Latreille
- Orsodacne humeralis var. Nigricollis Olivier
Similar species
- Orsodacne cerasi - no thick white hairs; the third antenna segment is noticeably longer than the second.
distribution
The species occurs in the western Palearctic . In Europe, the species is widespread in southern Europe as well as in southern central Europe. In Germany, the occurrence extends in the north to Thuringia and the Harz Mountains. In England the species occurs in the south and southeast. Outside of Europe, the distribution area extends to western North Africa (Morocco) and the Middle East (Iran).
Way of life
The beetles can be seen on various trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, especially hawthorns ( Crataegus ), birches and cypresses . The beetles fly from April to August. The host plants are hawthorns ( Crataegus ), medlars ( Mespilus ) and pears ( Pyrus ) as well as the genus Prunus . It is believed that the species overwinters in the first larval stage.
