Orthiden (Orthida) are an extinct taxon of arm pods (Brachiopoda) with a straight lock rim and an impunctate or endopunctate shell. Together with the Protorthida , Rhynchonellida , Atrypida , Spiriferida , Athyridida and Terebratulida , they form the taxon Rhynchonellata , which in turn belongs to the sub-strain of the Rhynchonelliformea .
features
Their housing usually consists of biconvex valves. Orthids do not have a real arm structure, only small support plates ( brachiophores ) can be formed. The group was first named by Schuchert and Cooper in 1932 .
Systematics
The orthids are divided into four sub-taxa , which are subdivided according to the formation of the delthyrium , the spondylium and puncture of the shell:
- Billingsellacea
- Clitambonitacea
- Orthacea
- Enteletacea or (Dalmanellacea)
