Orthodoxia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Orthodoxia is a directory of Orthodox bishops , including Oriental Orthodox churches , with brief CVs. The information is usually taken from the calendars of the individual churches. In this respect, Orthodoxia corresponds to the Annuario Pontificio . It is published annually by Aschendorff Verlag in Münster.

history

Orthodoxia was published from 1982 to 2014 by the Eastern Church Institute in Regensburg and edited by Nikolaus Wyrwoll ; since 2015 it has been published by the Institutum Studiorum Oecumenicorum (Institute for Ecumenical Studies) of the Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg im Üechtland .

Orthodoxia was originally intended as an aid to distinguish the numerous vagabond "bishops" with pseudo-Eastern titles from the bishops who really belong to an Eastern church with whom the Holy See is in contact.

“ORTHODOXIA” has meanwhile become an instrument of communication. The first edition in 1982 lists around 800 bishops, the 22nd edition 2012–2013 around 1,400.
