Orthofen is a small Upper Bavarian village in the municipality of Sulzemoos in the Dachau district . It has almost 200 residents.

history

Orthofen was first mentioned in a document in 1150. At that time the village was called "Nordhofen". The village church has probably been in existence since 1315 and is particularly known for the ceiling frescoes created in 1747. In 1821 Orthofen and Wiedenzhausen were merged into one municipality through the reforms of the Minister Montgelas. As a result of the regional reform in 1978, Wiedenzhausen was incorporated into Sulzemoos. In 1982 the village cross was placed next to the maypole in the middle of the village.

Finding the Cross and St. Helena

The branch church “St. Finding the Cross and St. Helena ”belongs to the parish of Sittenbach and was first described in 1524 in the Sundendorfer register, but is probably already 200 years older. The late Gothic church was rebuilt in the 17th or 18th century and enlarged a little at the end of the 19th century. The ceiling frescoes were made by the painter Franz Mayr.
