Local chapel Untermixnitz

The local chapel of St. Rosalia von Untermixnitz is a listed chapel.

History and description

The local chapel of Untermixnitz was donated by Johann von Fladnitz, who made a mass foundation for the chapel on January 9, 1445 in Vienna.

Despite some parish rights, the chapel remained dependent on the nearby Pulkau . A visitation protocol from 1544 describes the chapel as having been priestless for five years and according to a memorial book by Pulkau from 1645 it was profaned around this time .

In 1749 it was restored and dedicated to St. Rosalia . In 1778 the parish was changed from Pulkau to Waitzendorf . In the course of the Josephine reforms , Untermixnitz came to the newly established parish in Obermixnitz, which was looked after by the Upper Austrian Cistercian Abbey of Wilhering .

The chapel of Untermixnitz is a building with a round apse and a three-storey tower on the west side, which is divided by cornices . The sound windows were designed to be rounded.

The renovation work in 1816 greatly changed the appearance of the baroque chapel. The inside of the chapel was renovated in 1970 and the outside in 1974.
