Placemark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A placemark is the place indicated at the beginning of a message or press release . This information is added to the text by the press agency before it is distributed. The placemark (or pointed mark ) is not always the actual place of action reported in the text, or the whereabouts of the journalist; in very small and unknown places, often only the name of the nearest larger city is given.

In its German version of Google Earth, Google Inc. refers to placemarks as placemarks.
