The Ortsund in Rostock is a former short alley that led from the northeast corner of the Neuer Markt to the triangular Am Schilde square . The north side of the Neuer Markt and the shield no longer exist either.
The village first mentioned in 1480 was one of the seven proverbial streets that led to the Neuer Markt. Its name is derived on the one hand from the former meaning of the word place as "corner" and on the other hand from the term Sund as a narrow waterway. Its description as "narrow passage at the corner" characterizes it very aptly. In 2014, a committee of the Hanseatic City of Rostock selected an urban design for the development of the north side of the Neuer Markt from among several designs. At the location of the Ortsund, another small square will be provided, which will lead directly into the Neuer Markt, which will form the transition to the Am Schilde square that will then be created again. At its north-west corner, a (historically non-existent) alley should lead the tram route to Long Street.
