Oscar Leeser (born May 7, 1958 in Chihuahua , Mexico ) is a Mexican- American politician and since 2013 mayor of El Paso , Texas .

Life

Leeser was born in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. When he was nine years old, his family moved to the United States and settled in El Paso, Texas. In 1974 he received US citizenship . Lesser worked as a caretaker at the Cielo Vista Mall and later became a car salesman from 1979. Looking back on a decade-long career in the auto industry, he became President of Hyundai's El Paso office in 2001 . Under his leadership, the branch became the most successful branch in Hyundai's South Central Region and the sixth most successful branch in the United States.

In 2013 he was elected mayor of El Paso as a political career changer and thus prevailed in a runoff election against Steve Ortega, a member of the City Council of El Paso. The previous Mayor John Cook could no longer run due to a term limit. Leeser was sworn in on June 24, 2013.

Leeser is married and has four children.
