Oscar Saavedra

Oscar Saavedra is an Italian experimental astro-particle physicist. He is a professor at the University of Turin .

He is a leading representative of neutrino astrophysics and the physics of cosmic radiation and is involved in the creation and development of the underground laboratory in Gran Sasso (LVD detector) as well as in LSD on Mont Blanc (the neutrino detector was in operation from 1984 to 1999), where he and his team made important contributions to the discovery of neutrinos from the supernova SN 1987A . He is involved internationally both in cooperation with Russian scientists and South American (experiments at high altitudes in the Andes in Bolivia, SLIM detector in the Chacaltaya laboratory).

In 2007 he received the Markow Prize .
