The Oscorna fertilizer GmbH & Co. KG in Ulm is a fertilizer manufacturing company, the only horn mill has Germany.

history

Founded in 1935 by a mill master of an insolvent horn button factory as a sideline, from 1945 the company specialized in the processing of natural vegetable and animal raw materials, in particular the production of horn fertilizer . Initially, the company still operated as "Corna-Werk Gebr. Wölper GmbH & Co." under the management of the new partner Robert Schulmeister († 1991; the Waldorf kindergarten in Ulm is named after him). In 1952 the word "Oscorna" was registered as a trademark and the company was renamed. The horn material used today is mainly imported from Eastern Europe in order to be further processed here, as in Germany the manual gutting of the horns would be unaffordable. Oscorna now also buys externally ground horn so that it can be further processed into fertilizer mixtures using its own products. Large-grain horn, however, is still ground in-house.

The company has around 60 permanent employees and is the market leader in Germany in the field of organic mixed fertilizers (= natural fertilizers) for the hobby garden.

In 1997 the company was awarded the environmental prize of the city of Ulm for special achievements in the field of environmental protection , in 1998 an "Recognition for companies in the field of industry" from the Ministry of the Environment in Baden-Württemberg, and in 2005 the entire product range received the " Austrian Environmental Label ". 2006 Oscorna Animalin from the magazine Öko-Test with very good rates.

Quote: “In 1950 we could also have asked ourselves which products are the quickest to achieve high sales and earn the most money. Out of responsibility, the decision was made that we only want to manufacture products that do not harm humans, animals, plants or soil in any way. ... In the eyes of our competitors we were miserable merchants, for years we waived several million marks in sales and profits. "
Horst Mayer, from 1977 managing partner of the company

Thomas Mayer has been the successor to the late company director Horst Mayer since 2008.
