Oskar Speck (born August 20, 1855 in Neustadt near Chemnitz, † February 4, 1922 in Pirna ) was a secondary school teacher (senior teacher), historian and town clerk in Pirna.

Life

Oskar Speck is considered the founder of scientific urban historiography in Pirna. In 1889 he wrote a scientific paper about the events in Pirna during the Thirty Years' War . This probably provided the material for the Pirna folk play Der Retter , in which Theophilus Jacobäer plays the title role. Speck became town clerk in 1893 as the successor to Bernhard Muth. In 1906 he was awarded the title of professor for his services to research into the city's history . Oskar Speck died of a stroke while working in the archive in 1922 .
