Oslyanka

The Osljanka ( Russian Ослянка ) is a mountain in the Urals . Depending on the definition of the border between the Northern and Middle Urals, the 1119 meter high mountain is the highest mountain in the Middle Urals or a mountain in the Northern Urals.

The mountain 50 kilometers east of the city of Kisel extends from north to south for about 16 kilometers. The mountain is generally broad in shape, but there are also steep and rocky areas locally.

vegetation

Most of the mountain lies above the tree line. Up to a height of 750 to 800 meters, the Osljanka is mainly covered with fir and spruce forest. At higher altitudes, birch, crooked wood and plants from the mountain tundra still thrive.

Origin of name

As for the origin of the name "Osljanka", there are two theories. According to a first, the name could come from the adjacent Osljanka river, from which grindstones were previously extracted, which are referred to as "osla" ( осла ) using an old Russian word . According to the other theory, the name comes from the shape of the mountain, which is reminiscent of a trunk and could therefore be derived from the Russian word "osljad" ( ослядь ) or "osledina" ( оследина ).
