Osman Sebrî

Osman Sebrî (* 1905 in Kolik , Adıyaman Province , † 1993 in Damascus ) was a Kurdish author, poet and politician. He was the founder of the first Kurdish party in Syrian Kurdistan in 1957.

biography

As a result of the Sheikh Said uprising , Osman Sebrî was arrested and held in Denizli prison in 1928 . After he was released, he went to Syria and Iraq in 1929 . During his stay in Syria he met many intellectual Kurds such as B. Celadet Ali Bedirxan , Cegerxwîn , Qedrîcan and Tîrêj know. Osman Sebrî took part in the Ararat uprising , but was imprisoned in Mosul and Baghdad by British authorities . Despite the release of Osman Sebrî in 1935, the French sent him into exile in Madagascar in 1936 . A year later he came to Lebanon , where he became a member of the Xoybûn (in German: "Independence") and helped with the Kurdish publications in Beirut . In 1954 Osman Sebrî published a Kurdish-Latin alphabet. He was also a founder of the Partiya Demokrata Kurd li Sûriyê (in German: Democratic Party of Kurdistan-Syria ), which was formed in 1957 . There he was elected Secretary General. By 1972, he had been jailed over 20 times for his activities.
