OstLicht Gallery

history

In June 2012 , the OstLicht gallery was opened on the site of the former Ankerbrot factory, Vienna's youngest and dynamically growing cultural area. OstLicht is a new project by Peter Coeln, who has been the WestLicht photo museum since 2001 . Operates a scene for photography . OstLicht shows group and solo exhibitions of contemporary photo art on 400 m² of exhibition space, both Austrian and international positions. With the opening of OstLicht, another art institution is established on the still young cultural area of ​​the former anchor bread factory.

Library

OstLicht specialist library

The specialist library of the OstLicht Gallery comprises a collection of over 20,000 books and magazines on the subjects of art, technology, history and theory of photography , which extends from the end of the 19th century to the present day. The inventory of the reference library emerged from the collection of Peter Coeln. The library is constantly being expanded through purchases of antiquarian and exhibition-related books.

OstLicht / WestLicht collection

The photo collection of Peter Coeln-GmbH includes around 40,000 objects in a wide variety of photographic production techniques, from plate photographs and glass slides to the various printing processes on paper. The spectrum includes historical and classic photography, which in WestLicht. The location for photography is kept, as well as works of contemporary photographic art, located in the OstLicht. In addition to individually purchased objects, the collection includes a number of partial bequests and larger work blocks (Studio Manassé / Olga Wlassics, Photo Simonis, Gustav Schikola, Udo Proksch / Roland Pleterski, Stefan Kruckenhauser , Walter Henisch, Trude Fleischmann ).
