Osterloog is a large terp in the northern district of Norddeich , which has a courtyard. The place was first mentioned in 1589 as the Osterloch . The current spelling has been in use since 1755. The name is a combination of the East Frisian-Low German term Loog (= village, place) with the cardinal direction East.

The former broadcasting station for the marine radio service ( Norddeich Radio ) was located in Osterloog . After its gradual shutdown, the transmission masts were dismantled. A small nature reserve was created on the land that this freed up . The former broadcasting building houses the so-called Waloseum , a permanent exhibition dedicated to the whale .
