Osvald group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Osvald Group ( Norwegian Osvaldgruppen or Osvald gruppen , English Osvald Group ) was the most active sabotage group against the German occupation of Norway in the years 1941 to the summer of 1944. At least 110 acts of sabotage were carried out by the communist group.

Originally, the organization was part of the Wollweber Group, a sub-organization of the Soviet secret police, the NKVD . It was crushed when its leader, Ernst Wollweber, was arrested in 1940. Martin Hjelmen was the first leader of the Osvald group. From 1938 Asbjørn Sunde took over the management . For a long time, the group was denied public recognition and honor in Norway because of its communist attitude. As recently as 2013, eight of the 17 remaining members were honored for their services. In 2014 a memorial to the group was inaugurated in Oslo .
