from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asbjørn Edvin Sunde (born December 12, 1909 in Vikna , † April 23, 1985 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian seaman , communist and, after the German attack on the Soviet Union, resistance fighter against the National Socialist rule in Norway. During the Second World War from 1941 to 1944, Sunde's group - the Osvald Group - was involved in presumably more than 200 acts of sabotage against the German occupiers and their collaborators . Many of the actions were led by the Norwegian government- in- exile in London. The well-known Norwegian resistance fighter Gunnar Sønsteby supported the Osvald group.

Activities after the war

After 1948 Asbjørn Sunde began to set up Soviet stay-behind groups in Norway. He maintained close contacts with the Soviet embassy in Oslo. In 1954 he was sentenced to 8 years in prison for espionage . The aim of the organizations set up by Sunde was to carry out sobotage actions in Norway in the event of war, following instructions from Moscow. The targets were US military facilities in Norway. The groups consisted not only of members of the NKP (Norwegian Communist Party) , but also of other like-minded people.
