Osvaldo Borsani
Osvaldo Borsani (* 1911 in Varedo ; † April 16, 1985 in Milan ) was an Italian architect , designer and entrepreneur .
Life
Borsani studied fine arts at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and architecture at the Politecnico di Milano . In 1936 he finished his studies. While still a student, Borsani took part in the fifth Milan Triennial with his Casa Minima project and won a silver medal. At the same time he started working with his father in the family business Atelier Varedo, making cabinets. In 1932 the company was renamed Arredamento Borsani and opened its first store in Milan. During this time, Borsani began to work with Milanese artists such as Lucio Fontana , Agenore Fabbri , Aligi Sassu , Roberto Crippa , Fausto Melotti , Arnaldo Pomodoro and Gio Pomodoro . In 1953, Osvaldo and his twin brother Fulgenzio founded TECNO, which became known for its technology and its research-based approach to furniture design. The D70 sofa from 1954 is one of TECNO's most important designs; the P40 Chaise from 1955 with movable individual parts and adjustable back and armrests and the Graphis office furniture system .
In 1970, together with his daughter Valeria and Marco Fantoni, Borsani opened the joint design laboratory Centro Progetti Tecno for the development of new products.
Borsani died on April 16, 1985 in Milan.
