Otmarmusik St. Gallen

The Otmarmusik St. Gallen is a show and entertainment wind orchestra from St. Gallen in Switzerland. The wind orchestra appeared on Radio DRS , on Swiss television and on SWR . It made trips abroad to the USA and Japan.

history

Otmarmusik St. Gallen was founded in 1926, the first conductor from 1926 to 1929 was Xaver Kuster. Gottlieb Osterwalder headed the formation from 1929 to 1943, followed by Josef Nagel (1944–1977).

From 1977 Werner Strassmann took over the musical direction. During this time the formation went on a concert tour to Japan (1988), took part in the Tournement of Roses Parade in Pasadena (California, USA, 1991), won 1st prize at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago (USA, 1992 ), first prize at the national light music competition in Basel (1997) and second place at the international light music competition in St. Gallen (1998). In 1994 Strassmann was awarded the Golden Treble Clef for his musical achievements .

From 2005 to 2013 the formation was led by Thomas Biasotto, who also arranges and composes pieces. At the beginning of 2007 Biasotto was awarded the victory in the 2nd International Composition Competition for Light Music with a piece for the second class. In 2006 the show "Frank Sinatra & Friends" was performed for the first time with Thomas Biasotto and recorded on DVD. The show was also performed at the 30th Openair St. Gallen accompanied by three singers and their own dance group .

In 2013, Stefan Christinger became the sixth conductor to take over the musical direction of the entertainment wind orchestra. With him, Otmarmusik St. Gallen took part in the Tattoo St. Gallen and The Princely Liechtenstein Tattoo in 2016 and was allowed to take part in the European brass music festival in Bad Schlema (D) as a Swiss representative.
