The Ottawa Islands are a group of islands in the east of Hudson Bay in Canada , west of the Labrador Peninsula . Politically, they belong to the Qikiqtaaluk region of Nunavut territory .

geography

The Ottawa Islands are located around 100 km from Pointe aux Ecueils on the west coast of the Ungava Peninsula in northern Labrador. The distance to Mansel Island in the north is around 175 km and to the Belcher Islands in the south around 250 km. The archipelago consists of nine larger islands ( principal islands ) as well as countless small and tiny islands and rocks, which extend from northeast to southwest over a length of over 100 kilometers parallel to the coast. The nine largest islands are (from northeast to southwest):
